Try Something New… for Fall

In this crazy, fast paced world, there are so many diet fads resurfacing that people lose sight of what really works, and that is clean eating.  It can sound too simple to work, but when we eat clean foods, foods that are alive-they make us feel alive!  If we eat foods that are dead, we will feel dead!  It’s that simple.

We can all control the first half hour of our day and the last half hour of our day.  I tell my clients to look at the upcoming morning like they were viewing it through a window. Noticing what that will look like and what you can do as you wrap up the evening to help your morning go as smoothly as possible, thus keeping your cortisol level (stress) as low as possible.  If you can do that, you are already starting off on the right foot.

Preparedness is the secret to success.  Having healthy clean foods on hand, ready to go, is essential for clean eating.  Finding a local farmers market that you visit regularly to stock up on local fruits and vegetables is a great first step. Anything that you can’t find there, can be found at your local Sprouts or grocery store.  Have your staple list of foods that you always need:  lettuce, spinach, celery, apples, beets, garlic, onions, green onion, melons, broccoli, cucumber, potatoes, carrots, lemons, oranges, etc.  Purchase organic as much as possible, especially food that you will be biting into (celery, apples, peaches, etc.).  Always wash everything that you bring home no matter what.  Think about melons for example, when we cut into it, if there is any bacteria on the outside of if you are dragging the bacteria through the fruit that you will be eating.  It’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Setting aside an hour to two a week to prepare your food tends to work the best. Do meals and snacks in batches, think salads, salad dressings, juices, cookies, and granola.   It doesn’t have to be hard to taste great!

Remember, it’s all about balance.  Yes, you can have your cookies and eat them too!!  If you are preparing your foods at home, you know what is in the food.  The fresher the better!
